This is a Picture Dictionary. This kind of dictionary arranges pictures of things by the letters of the alphabet, instead of words and definitions. Pictures of things whose names begin with the letter A are first, followed by pictures of things whose names begin with B, and so on.
Whole Group Conversation: (1) Where would you find a picture of a cat? (2) Where in this book would you find pictures of things whose names begin with Z? (3) Did you know that you can also use letters of the alphabet to find things online?
Together we will choose an animal from A and print it out. Let's create the first page of our dictionary!
Directions: We are going to make a class dictionary. We have to work together to make sure we have a page for each letter of the alphabet. Each of you will get a letter. You are to search and choose one animal for your letter. Print out the page, cut and glue into your dictionary page.
Closure: (1) How did you find pictures of things whose names begin with your letter?
(2) How can you use the alphabet to search for things on the Internet? (3) Do you think there are other ways to search for things on the Internet?
